Thanks for report Mark - sounds great - would love a link to your pics when you publish them. We have decided not to go to Maldives next Xmas and have friends who live in KL so we were looking to spend a couple of days with them and where you stayed sounds ideal for the rest of our holiday.

Hi Mark

So pleased that you had a brilliant holiday.

Not sure its my type of holiday but if the price is right who knows.

We are not going back to Meeru next year, we could afford it, but i am not prepared to pay the huge hike.

We are probably going for a late booking with Lee ,Shell, Jules & Mark.
So if its not 100% we can laugh our way though it.

Hope your house repairs are coming on.

Pauline

Thanks everyone!

Vanessa and Brian..

Don't book yet if you are thinking about it. Wait about six weeks, the flights will be cheaper then.

We are still not dried out yet and its been 4 - 5 weeks since the flood so we are expecting it to be a while yet before we move back in.

The Berjaya Langkawi is a fantastic place but like I said in my TA trip report, no resort is all things to all men but this certainly ticked our boxes.

Jeanette..

April is the rainy season but you should expect sunshine all day long with a hard downpour while you sleep. Its only the Monsoon Season thats a bit dodgy. Then again I am not expert and its only what the locals told me.

Photos.

I have managed to process a few more photos (sometimes I really wish I shot JPEG!) and I have placed them on my flickr. I don't want to bombard this fantastic Meeru forum with photos from another resort so I will post a link to the photos instead.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/30479044@N03/sets/72157623506335995/

I will be adding to it all the time as I get through the photos so please feel free to take a peek now and again.

If anyone wants any high-res copies just ask, no bother.

Aaaaah thanks for the report Mark-been waiting to hear all about it because we are still deciding on Malaysia or Thailand! We go in September but have been put off regarding weather as it is the Monsoon so really not sure what to do now! Confused

We looked at Langkawi originally but were put off by tripadvisor reports about jellyfish and not being able to go in the sea-did you experience this or was it okay?

We are very interested in the Berjaya Redang which also looked fabulous they are lovely resorts!

Off to have a peek at the photies now, thanks again!!

Edited to say don't worry one bit about clogging up Meeru site with your report, that's what this section of the forum is for and I'm sure I'm not alone is saying I've loved all the photos so far especially of the wildlife Very Happy

We too heard about the Jelly fish incident before we left and were a bit apprehensive. However, the sea was far too tempting and we certainly went in and had no bother at all and didn't hear of anyone else having problems.

Apparently Thailand has a bigger jelly fish problem but that didn't stop us going in the see when we went there.

I think its like a shark attack, you will be extremely unlucky if its you as, like shark attacks, jelly fish stings are few and far between. I did try eating jellyfish and it was quite nice Smile

Loved reading your trip report & amazing pictures Mark.

I'm gonna have to put Malaysia on my favourites list. I think the kids (now aged 10 & 12) would love it.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thanks Chas.

The kids would love it, there is quite a bit for them to do. The Island is really diverse and if the kids like adventure, this is the place!.

Blimey that was quick! I only put it in the post last night!

Hope it is all of some use, if you have any questions at all just give me a shout.

The mangrove kayak trip is one of the reason we are going back, its something we really wanted to do but never got round to it, I imagine it will be brilliant. We did it by boat but kayak would be excellent.

They are currently building a plush new hotel at the Telega harbour where the Tapas restaurant is, that will be a cracking resort when its finished.

We have been pricing up today for a return trip in Feb but the March airline schedules are not out yet. We are chomping at the bit to book again!

If you are thinking about hiring a car we went for Kasina, not the cheapest but very reputable.

Listen at me burbling on!

Go and enjoy!!

What a truly amazing trip report. Such a wonderful range of wildlife there. The photography is ace, Mark, and cheers for the info on what some of these beasts are.

I'm very fond of 'Hornbill Harry' by the way!

Its times like this I wish I shot jpeg and not raw!

Looking forward to seeing some of your new pictures.

Thanks Mark. Nice report. I think it shows the Maldives should not take people for granted. There are others beautiful and interesting places out there.

Sorry Mark, was that £1100 you and the wife would have paid for 2 week?
